CANCELLED DUE TO DROUGHT! It will be rescheduled when there is enough rain to support young trees. Last year we were privileged to volunteer at Lower Green Swamp, helping to plant long leaf pines. Well–we can do it again! “We are repeating our Long Leaf Pine Planting day on April 30th. We are hoping to… Continue reading CANCELLED: Pine Planting at Lower Green Swamp!
Kudos to Lake Louisa State Park staff
We have to acknowledge Scott Spaulding, Park Manager of Lake Louisa, and his staff for the great trails and amenities for horse people. The trails have great markers, complete with numbers and arrows (we understand these are compliments of the Boy Scouts). The Equestrian campground has corrals with more being added. The Equestrian day parking… Continue reading Kudos to Lake Louisa State Park staff
“Our” picnic table is now at Lake Louisa!
Led by our fearless leader Mike Charron, one of our two picnic tables was delivered to Lake Louisa State Park this morning. Park Manager Scott Spaulding, accompanied by his son Adam, was there bright and early to remove the old table from the Equestrian Day Parking area and help us set up the new table. THANKS… Continue reading “Our” picnic table is now at Lake Louisa!

Club lunch at Lang’s Sun Country
Our club “dine-arounds” have turned into a really nice way to actually talk to each other. We have fun at our meetings and on rides, but social conversation can be short because of the situations. Thanks go to Donna Fellers for suggesting the Taste of Florida Café at Lang Sun County in Haines City; we… Continue reading Club lunch at Lang’s Sun Country
Herrmann’s Royal Lipizzan Stallions
It was a gorgeous day for the club’s field trip to see the Lipizzan stallions in Myakka City. We had great seats under the oak trees, and Gabriella Herrmann presented her horses and riders in an informative, engaging 1.5 hour “performance.” For a $5 donation, it’s one of the best bargains in Central Florida!
It’s the Season of the Caterpillar at the Marshall Hampton Tract
Break out your crops…the Acorn Loop trail this morning could have made a great science fiction movie with all the caterpillars dangling from the trees. They caught on the horses’ faces and manes, dangled from our helmet brims and boots, and crawled on every article of clothing we had. A couple even made it into… Continue reading It’s the Season of the Caterpillar at the Marshall Hampton Tract
Hampton Tract Work Day
It got a little warm out there today, but 9 Triple B and Florida Sport Horse Club members, plus 1 SWFWMD volunteer and 2 SWFWMD staff, came out to help tear down the screened building at the Hampton Tract campground. Once the building was down to supports and roof, we turned to tree trimming and cleanup. … Continue reading Hampton Tract Work Day
Wednesday: Work Day at the Hampton Tract
We have another volunteer opportunity for SWFWMD this Wednesday, March 8th, at 9am! Kim DeVary is asking horse people for help taking down a small screened building at the Hampton Tract campground. It has been continually vandalized, and so must be replaced with something less vulnerable to attack. If you can help, please call Karen… Continue reading Wednesday: Work Day at the Hampton Tract
“A Day Without Disabilities”
The Florida Sport Horse Club members were privileged to give pony rides at the Bunch Ranch in Lakeland today for the 3rd annual “Day Without Disabilities.” The delight on the riders’ faces was all the payment we needed. THANKS go to Kathy Grinstead and Dennis Dudley, Ellie Crowder, Melody Cazort, Marsha Smith, and Janet DelCastillo… Continue reading “A Day Without Disabilities”
