I had just loaded my horse back in the trailer yesterday after a great ride, and was doing my last walk-around before hitting the road when I heard a “ping” inside. When I opened a door, I found a humongous horsefly buzzing around my boy. I shudder to think of the aggravation to my horse,… Continue reading An Unexpected Trailering Hazard
Our NEW Colt Creek State Park day parking!
It’s not officially open yet, but Colt Creek manager Scott Duncan allowed us to use the new equestrian day parking area today for the joint Triple B/Florida Sport Horse Club ride. Somewhere around 10 rigs parked here, so we were able to meet up with the campers for a wonderful ride. The weather was perfect–and… Continue reading Our NEW Colt Creek State Park day parking!

Florida Sport Horse Club donates picnic table to Colt Creek State Park
By now I hope you’ve heard of the very successful work party Triple B and FSHC members had yesterday at Colt Creek, to clear fields for a new equestrian day parking area and expansion of the equestrian campground. In addition to this, FSHC presented the park with an 8-foot picnic table for use in that… Continue reading Florida Sport Horse Club donates picnic table to Colt Creek State Park
Earth Day Clean-Up at Colt Creek State Park
There was no better way to spend Earth Day than clearing the NEW equestrian day parking field plus primitive equestrian camping expansion area. Triple B and Florida Sport Horse Club members teamed up to spend the morning picking up dead wood, chain-sawing fallen trees, and forging our way through enormous tangles of Caesar weed. We have SO… Continue reading Earth Day Clean-Up at Colt Creek State Park
Does your trailer have a slippery slope?
My horse trailer has a ramp, which I really like most of the time. But every time my horse makes his tribute to the trailer gods (manure) and backs through it and down the ramp, those slick hooves have slipped badly. So I went down to my local Home Depot and found this “extra textured”… Continue reading Does your trailer have a slippery slope?
What would you do if your horse was lost?
Last year my horse and I abruptly parted company on the trail, and he continued galloping away until he was out of sight. I was lucky–I was in a fenced area (even if it was a few thousand acres), and as the rangers came to get me they found my horse grazing close to the… Continue reading What would you do if your horse was lost?
160 Pony Rides at Colt Creek!
It’s still boggling our minds, but FSHC members and 11 horses gave 160 pony rides to kids of all ages at yesterday’s “Get to Know Colt Creek” event. Over half our people plus 4 “honorary-members-for-the-day” worked very hard from 1:30 to 3:00 to give Colt Creek guests a good experience. More pictures will be posted… Continue reading 160 Pony Rides at Colt Creek!
What ARE those caterpillars?
I’m probably not the only one who’s wondered what all those darned caterpillars are, and what they turn into. Well, they’re forest tent caterpillars–and the moths that emerge have about 1 1/2″ wingspan. If interested, you can read more at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forest_tent_caterpillar_moth.
When Your Horse is Down
It’s a terrible situation for horse owners when they face first the death of their animal and second what to do with the remains. This dilemma came up at our last club meeting, and a few unique solutions were offered. One lady, in desperation, called a local septic tank company–they came out and dug the hole… Continue reading When Your Horse is Down
