A friend and I were lucky enough to ride the Alston Tract this morning. This SWFWMD parcel is sandwiched between the Upper Hillsborough Preserve to the north and the Lower Green Swamp Preserve to the south and east. 16 miles of trails lead through pine and palmetto and are mostly sunny. While not a ride I’d undertake on a hot summer’s day, today was just about perfect. There was a bit of a mist, overcast with a slight wind, and the colors of the fields and trees were lovely. We also saw a gorgeous 8-point buck. The Alston trails connect with the Upper Hillsborough trails, and I look forward to going back and exploring the south end of that Preserve!
