We had 14 people last night at our August dinner, the most we’ve had so far! It was, as always, an exceedingly congenial crowd. The only challenge was that those of us on one end of the (long) table couldn’t talk to those at the other end easily. Would it be that we always have… Continue reading The August dine-around was great!

Florida Sport Horse Club 2016-2017 Year-End Report
It’s always wise to evaluate a group’s activities at particular points in time. The end of our club year is a good time to do this. I’m very proud that–as small as our club is–we do so very much! We have a great President and active, collaborative members who are always ready to step up… Continue reading Florida Sport Horse Club 2016-2017 Year-End Report
It’s Time to Renew Your Membership!
August starts our new club year. Most folks have already sent in their renewals, and we hope you will too! We have a lot of fun with the club, do a lot of trail riding, AND give back to our community with pony rides, work days and special projects. You can find the membership form… Continue reading It’s Time to Renew Your Membership!
Your 2017-2018 Club Officers
Officer elections were held Saturday night at our annual membership barbeque. While 3 of the names look suspiciously familiar, we welcome one new face to our leadership! Our long-time Treasurer Judy Cloninger has decided to step down, and we are VERY privileged to have had two people step up and volunteer for her position. It… Continue reading Your 2017-2018 Club Officers
The new club year has begun!
We had a great time Saturday night at our annual start-to-the-club-year’s barbeque. Steve Lassiter fired up his monster grill for delicious pork ribs and chicken, and everybody brought a covered dish to share. Which meant, of course, we all ate too much. The very best part of this club is the congenial people, who… Continue reading The new club year has begun!
Eco-Vet Vs. the Tenoroc Horseflies
The July 15th club ride was at Tenoroc, which is usually a reasonably bug-free place in the summer. But THIS day the horseflies, especially on the north loop, were not only ferocious but swarmed in such numbers to make the ride intolerable. SO: we went back this past Saturday for an experiment. One member–the one… Continue reading Eco-Vet Vs. the Tenoroc Horseflies
The Alligators are Traveling….
Club member Judy Cloninger found this beauty in her yard today. Not only is it mating season, but the very dry weather is driving alligators into areas they would normally shun. Be aware, and know that alligators are known to climb fences!
When You Least Expect It…
You can find a training opportunity! Riding around my yard this morning, my horse and I were working on basic suppling exercises, transitions, and moving through tight spaces. As we rode I spied this banana tree leaning WAY over thanks to an enormous cluster of bananas, and with cries of delight headed the horse toward… Continue reading When You Least Expect It…
Are Your Horses Tagged?
The more identification I have on my horse, the better I feel. I keep an ID tag on his halter and his bridle (see it hanging?), and am considering putting one on the saddle as well. This is, of course, in addition to the emergency contacts list I carry in my horse’s saddlebag and in… Continue reading Are Your Horses Tagged?
Monday’s Club Lunch at Sweet Magnolia’s
We had 2 very special guests at our May lunch. While not horse people per se, Margaret and Gerry Von Ehr have been extremely supportive of our club’s activities at Colt Creek State Park, and both came out to the joint Triple B/Florida Sport Horse recent work day. Gerry mowed the entire area–first with the… Continue reading Monday’s Club Lunch at Sweet Magnolia’s
