It’s always wise to evaluate a group’s activities at particular points in time. The end of our club year is a good time to do this. I’m very proud that–as small as our club is–we do so very much! We have a great President and active, collaborative members who are always ready to step up and help. So here’s what we did during our 2016-2017 club year:
- Added monthly dine-arounds as a club activity
- Placed an ad in the Osceola Wagon Train program
- Ran the concession stand at Triple B’s November 5th, 2016 Charity Fun Day at Aldine Combee arena (funds went toward donated picnic tables at Lake Louisa and Colt Creek State Parks)
- Launched a new web page
- Presented on the pleasures of trail riding to members of the Crop & Carrot 4-H club on January 9, 2017
- Represented the horse community at the Friends of Colt Creek public meeting on January 19, 2017
- Participated in a work day at Green Swamp West to clear trees and limbs from the campgrounds, mow trails, and re-mark the trails on February 21, 2017
- Provided pony rides to participants at the Bunch Ranch’s “Day Without Disabilities on March 4, 2017
- Worked to tear down structure and clean campground at the Green Swamp Hampton Tract on March 8, 2017
- Took a field trip to Herrmann’s Lipizzans, Myakka City, on March 11, 2017
- Purchased and placed an 8’ picnic table at Lake Louisa State Park on March 18, 2017
- Provided pony rides at the annual “Get to Know Colt Creek” event on April 4, 2017
- Participated in a Colt Creek work day to clear the new equestrian campground expansion and day parking area on April 22, 2017
- Purchased and placed an 8’ picnic table at Colt Creek State Park in the new equestrian day parking area
- Provided pony rides at the Polk City Library’s summer reading program event on June 19, 2017
- Supported Kathy Grinstead in her efforts to bring equestrian programs to Polk County’s Special Olympics
- Participated in Lower Green Swamp’s pine planting in June 2017
